$9.50 + $1.14 = $10.64

Just multiply 9.50 * 1.12
To convert percent to decimal you only need to move the decimal two places to the left (move it two places to the right to convert decimal > percent).
12% = .12
100% = 1
1 + .12 = 1.12
1.12 converted is 112 percent. So you have 100 percent of his old salary + 12% more.

calculate 12% of 9.5 and add to 9.5:
raise:
9.5*(12/100)=114/100 = 1.14
so net wage: 9.5+1.14 = $10.64
