No, you have been told wrong. There are many women in their late 30's or older when they have their first child.
A C-section is used when there is a reason.. Baby is breech, too large or Mom is having problems, etc.
If you do have to have a C-section for some reason, you are usually awake.
You should sign up for pre-natal classes. The classes are great for info on what to expect and you will also get a tour of the hospital.
Good luck.

lol, women in their 40s give natural vaginal birth to their children. It depends on your health and the health of the baby.

Theres absolutely no reason why, just because you're nearing 30, that you cant have your child regularly. Thats rediculous. Vaginal birth is healthier for the baby and the mother, unless there are severe compliactions.

Some hospitals push c-section because they make more money off of it, and it covers their butt for any birth complications. It doesnt do diddly squat for mom or baby. If your hospital has no real reason to be telling you to get a c-section, SWITCH HOSPITALS.

Yes, you are awake for a c-section. You get a spinal morphine which COMPLETELY blocks all nerves from the chest down, then you are given a local anesthetic to make sure that you dont feel a thing.

Generally you feel pressure as the baby is pushed from the openeing, but there is absolutely no pain... until recovery. Which hurts like holy hell.

Well, this depends on many factors. Does the woman have a sexually transmitted disease, such as genital warts, that can hurt the baby through vaginal birth? Does the woman have a high-risk health problem, such as heart disease? Has the woman had any prior c-sections? Vaginal birth after having a c-section can be done but is more risky. Does the baby have any high-risk health problems, such as hydronephrosis. Is the woman carrying more than one baby? Most OB-gyn's will prefer vaginal birth over c-section as recovery takes longer after having a c-section. Also, a c-section can have risks. Emergency (unplanned) c-sections occur for various reasons. For example, if labor is not progressing after the 'bag of water' breaks due to large baby, etc. Clearly, the benefits of having a c-section outweigh the risks in such cases. A healthy 29 year old should not necessarily 100% have to have a c-section. I would talk with your medical provider. Good luck.

That is not true. It doesn't matter what your age is you can deliver vaginally.

If for some reason a C-section would be needed the mother is awake in all but a very few cases (usually something known ahead of time).

They give medication into the spine to numb from the middle down so that they can do the C-section while the mother is awake.

If there are no complications vaginal birth is usually the first choice of all Dr's. age or prior history has nothing to do with it.AS for weather the woman is awake it depends on the situation and Dr.If it is not an emergency c-section the woman is usually given an epidural so she will feel nothing but will remain wake.On the other hand in most emergency cases the woman is put under as it its much faster.

I was 29 when I had my first and the only reason I had a C-section was because I was having twins and they were both breech. I am now 32 and pregnant again so I have the choice to do vaginal birth or C-section again.

The woman is definitely awake unless it was a true emergency. I have never heard of a woman having to have a C-section because of her age.

It’s still very rare — and intensely controversial — but more expectant mothers seem to be choosing C-sections even when there’s no clear medical need.

So says a new study that, by counting insurance claims data, estimates some 80,000 women had preplanned, elective C-sections in 2002, up from an estimate of just under 63,000 the year before.

HealthGrades culled insurance claims from 16 states, covering half the nation’s deliveries, in estimating first-time, preplanned C-sections without a clear medical indication. They accounted for 2.2 percent of deliveries in 2002, a 25 percent increase in three years, the study says.

Isn’t increased cost a barrier? Not necessarily, Moritz says. C-sections usually cost more because of an extra day or two in the hospital. But many women spend so long laboring in the hospital before a vaginal delivery that they can cost as much in extra nursing care and pain relief, he says.

So what should women consider?

Discuss your delivery concerns, Ecker says, because they might be addressed without surgery. Labor pain can be controlled. As for incontinence, some research suggests simply being pregnant raises that risk.
Think seriously about future children. One C-section “may doom you for life to have repetitive C-sections,” each one riskier, Moritz cautions.
Seek information on delivery methods. Moritz recommends a new consumer brochure from the nonprofit Maternity Center Association, available at http://www.maternitywise.org.

You heard wrong. I know several women who gave birth for the first time after 30 vaginally. My own expierence was c-section but that wasn't because I was over 30 it was because of the incompatibility of our blood types, she is positive I am negative. A woman at 29 can deliver vaginally if there aren't any complications, a woman of 50 can deliver vaginally if there aren't any compliations.

The mother is awake during a C- section usually a spinal anesthesia is given. And you can deliver vaginally if there are no complications that warrant a C -section. I was 32 with my first and 35 with my second and both born vaginally and natural with no medications.

Very incorrect. Doctors and midwives will allow any woman to proceed with a vaginal birth at any age as long as there's no danger to her or the baby.

Also, I had a c-section with my first and was awake the entire time. I was drugged, but awake. I'm hoping for a vaginal birth this time around.
