Firstly: LOOCH. In UK (where we speak real English;)) Modelling is spelt with 2 Ls so get your facts right before insulting people!

As for the answer, you will generally need to be over 5'7" but some agencies have rosters for smaller models. You have to be confident and have a 'look' about you... not necessarily a beautiful look. Please be careful about what agencies you go to and NEVER pay a signing on fee or anything!

Good luck with everything!

Looch, she's British and spelt MODELLING the English way. So get off your high horse.

Sophie, the best way to do it is to go to an agency with a few snapshots (never pay for pictures first, it's not what they want), wearing natural make up and well fitted, casual clothes.

You can look them up online first and see which agency you would be best suited to - some like commerically pretty girls, some like girls who look unusual.

The only universal requirements is that you'll have to be at least 5'8" (they'll make allowances if you're young and still growing) and thin, usually a size 6 or 8, but maybe a 10 if you go for one of the commericial agencies who do more catalogue modelling. Of course, if you want to be a glamour model it's different, you can be any height, but you'll need good sized boobs and you'll still have to be slim.

Best of luck!

CONFIDENCE

(But not the 'in your face' arrogant kind !)

You need to look the agency interviewer in the eye like you're their equal (but don't stare). Talk slowly and clearly, consider questions and give a proper answer; keep any 'humour' gentle and polite.

They want to know that you won't panic or crumble when you're faced with a pressured situation and being the centre of attention, or get bored when you have to wait for props or lights to be adjusted and 'artistic' decisions to be made by the photographer or art director. They'll also be impressed if you know a bit about the business, and aren't just thinking of it as a delightful parade of designer dresses, glamorous make-up and celebritity parties. Regular rejection is a normal part of the job, and they want to know you can stay positive when it happens.

Almost anybody can be made up and lit to look gorgeous. That's why 'makeover' shows and photography sessions sell so well. There are successful models with all sorts of 'looks'; it's not just for 'pageant queens'.

You need to let them know that you're serious and determined, that you're realistic, and that you can enjoy trying to fake a 'natural' smile on location, when you're cold and wet and hungry and the shoes have been hurting you all day.

Good luck, & keep smiling !

You need to look 'different' since conventional pretty doesn't do it anymore (too easily achieved I guess). Big eyes, eyes set slightly closer or apart, razor cheekbones, very pale skin etc any of those but in all honesty, Lilly Cole and Gemma Ward are 'it' right now and to beat that you'll have to be pretty damn amazing.
