Ok, I have this Math problem and I need you to help me answer it.

Q: In a week, Peter gets twice as much pocket money as John, and George gets $3 less than Peter. Altogether the three boys get $17.

If John gets $x a week:

(a) Write down in terms of x
i) How much Peter gets a week.............................
ii) How much George gets a week.............................

(b) Write down the equation in x and solve it. Hence, work out how much each boy gets a week.

-Please help me answer this problem, I have 10 problems and I want you to please do this for me so that I can do the other 9 left. It will be my guide/example to solve the problems. Please help.. Thank you very much.

OK.

The problem specifies that x is the amount John gets a week, so we need to express everything in terms of how much John gets.

"Peter gets twice as much pocket money as John"

P = 2x

"George gets $3 less than Peter"

G = P - 3 = 2x - 3

"Altogether the three boys get $17"

x + P + G = 17
x + 2x + 2x - 3 = 17

You can solve from there.

If J=X
P=2X
G=P-3

P+G+J=17

plug in P to the G equation
G=2X-3
then plug in P and G to solve for J
2X + 2X - 3 + X = 17
5x-3=17
5x=20
x=4
John gets $4, Peter gets $8, and George gets $5

a)
John = X
Peter = 2X
George = 2X - 3

b)
X + 2X + 2X - 3 = 17,
5X - 3 + 3 = 17 + 3,
5X = 20,
X = 20/5 = 4
therefore:
John = $4
Peter = $8
George = $5

Always check your work: 4 + 8 + 5 = 17

John - x
Peter - 2x
George - 2x -3

x + 2x +2x -3 = 17
5x -3 = 17
5x = 20
x =4

so John = $4
Peter = $8
George = $5

good luck !

a) john : x
peter : 2x
george : 2x-3
b)
total x+2x+2x-3 =17
=> 5x =20
x=4
hence john: $4
peter : $8
George: $5

okkk.. here goes...

(a)i) 2x
ii)2x-3

(b)x+2x+2x-3=17
5x-3=17
