My book group friends & I are having a holiday gift exchange and the theme is "it contains letters." Besides the obvious choices like a book or stamp kit, I am looking for a creative or unique idea to fit this theme. Thanks!

Also, I don't know which one of my friends will be the recipient!

Michael's craft stores have Post-it note pads die cut in the shapes of letters and a set of their initials could be included in a small gift basket of writing supplies with monogrammed stationary and an engraved pen. You could also find miniature wooden blocks ( the same kind of alphabet blocks you buy for children )in their wood craft section and buy several packs of them to glue around a picture frame or the frame of a small chalkboard or bulletin board for the kitchen. Make personalized bookplates using rubberstamps. If you have time, you can order one of those library embossers with the recipients initials. A locket with the recipients name or initials engraved on the front? I hope this is along the lines you were thinking.

If you know the name of the person you're giving to, I would get something with their initials on it.....a bookmark, some notecards, even some cookie specialty shoppes will make treats in the shape of letters of the alphabet.

Or how about something at a "Things Remembered" monogram type store? It doesn't have to be really expensive, but maybe a little trinket box or paperweight with their first initial (or all their initials) engraved.

Good luck!

How about going totally off the page and getting someone a package of Christmas cards or something. (Cards, letters, get it?) But then once they have opened it and laughed their head off, hand them the 'real' present - the ordinary book you were talking about. Or you could give them a poster of someone they really admire... of course, it would have to have words on it! Pretty much anything out there has letters on it nowadays... napkins, blankets, or even wallpaper! You could always get your switch a bunch of little stuff! Just look around, you're bound to find something.

Write your exchange partner an original poem, created by you. Or, you could frame your favorite quotes from books you have all read and give that as a gift. Whatever you choose--I think it's so neat to be a part of that kind of club!
