I need to jump start my friend's car and I just want to make sure I put the correct cables to the correct color.

Is it Red on Positive and Black on Negative?

Thanks in advance!

Red on positive and black on negative, on the car that is being jumped put the black on a ground, like to a motor mount or where the black wire is actually bolted to.

Thats correct....also always hook up both grounds (- black) first....then hook up the (+ red) on the dead car first and on the working car second.

This will put you away from the dead battery in the case that it has a dead short or is leaking hydrogen gas.

Once you are all hooked up let the good car run for at least a minute before trying to start the dead car.

Good Luck!!

you place one red cable to each red terminal on the battery, the black cable goes on the car that is doing the jumping and the other black cable oes to any ground point on the dead car

Red on positive, and black on negative, on both batteries.

Yes, and in most car manuals it gives you detailed instructions on how to jump a car.

It does not matter which color as long as both negatives have the same color and the two positives have the same color.

ya that's right. that's why they have color coding on the terminals of the battery. they go along with the color coding of the cables.
