Have a look in your Applications folder - there should be a 30-day trial version of Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. After 30 days, the software will expire and you'll be required to purchase a license to keep using it.

A better option would be to download and use NeoOffice. It's a free productivity suite that includes word possessing, spreadsheet and presentation software.

NeoOffice:

It depends on the mac you bought. If you have the "consumer" level computer, the one called MacBook, it will have Appleworks. If you got the "pro" version it will not be bundled with Appleworks.

For very basic word processing, you can use the TextEdit application on either computer. It is a pretty full-featured word processor, as "free" applications go. It can do bullets and numbered lists, format text like any word processor, search and replace, spell check, and do basic tables and outlines. It can save as .txt, .rtf, or as MS Word .doc. What it won't do is spreadsheet functions, like formulas and calculations.

Appleworks does have spreadsheets if you need them. You can also go to OpenOffice.org and get their free version of an "office" application the emulates MS Office. You need to use an XWindows application like Apple's X11 to run open office.

Finally, with a student ID, you can get a sweet deal at a campus bookstore on MS Office, Appleworks, and many other applications that cost pros a whole lot more. There are also online education sellers you can google.

Look at your tool bar, there should be an icn on it, the looks like a piece of paper with an A on it and a pencil in front of it, that is Appleworks.

You may have accidentally deleted the icon, if that is the case, for to the icon on the left, that has a face facing the left, that is the finder. From there, click on applications and then go to the folder that says Appleworks. Click on the .App one and if need be, drag it down to your tool bar.

If you want Word compatibility, go to OpenOffice.org and you can download the suite for the Mac OS that will you office compatible for free.

Ignore the rude PC people, they do not know what they are talking about.

Apple used to include them as part of AppleWorks. It allowed interchange between Macs and Windows Office if needed as well.

It hasn't been included for a couple of years now, but comes in the software bundle called AppleWorks 6 (purchased separately) Apple's price: $ 79 vs Office for Mac (by Microsloth) at several hundred $.

There is a freeware download (have a fast connection as it downloads a huge folder) called Neo Office at www.neooffice.org/ . I've tried it and it's as good as AppleWorks, more stable than Office and FREE!!!

All of the above have word processors, spreadsheets, presentation et al.

Enjoy your Mac.

If you do not have the programs you need in the programs list you can download them for free at the following link. This will have Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and more compatable programs. Just remeber when you save the files to select the correct extention so the teacher can acess your work with her\his MicroSoft software.

Good look.

There is a trial version of MS Office 2004 in your applications folder. You will need to buy a license for it after the trial, I think there is a student/teacher discount for it.

A few equivalent options that are free are, NeoOffice, OpenOffice and AbiWord.

Download Open Office from openoffice.org. It's free and offers the same things as Microsoft Office.

That's because there isn't any.

If you want Office Mac, you'll have to buy it... or hack, which I do not suggest.
However, if you want a program that will allow you to type and send stuff to your printer, use Stickies... just choose the Application folder, and find Stickies, or use Spotlight to find it.

You probably need to purchase the programs. They are quite expensive and new computers do not come loaded w/ them unless you ordered them that way.
