It's a great career if you're into that kind of thing. You have to be good with numbers and detail, and it helps if you're interested in business and what makes businesses successful. There is a lot of demand for accountants (Certified Public Accountants - CPAs), and they get paid well.

Can you stomach 7 years of ball aching study of a type that would drain the life out of anybody? To get anywhere in accountancy you need high level accountancy qualifications such as CCAB or ACCA, the study is extremely boring, mindnumbingly so. Not only do you have to be quite good with numbers you have to have a fine eye for detail (if you screw up you can lose your licence to practice - all that study wasted). It can be a nightmare but financially it is very rewarding once you start working. If you don't like accounting once you've started work you can do many other jobs within a company such as auditing, which is pretty cool.

You will shine in any job if you enjoy doing it. So give some thought to that. Do I like accounting? If so, there are plenty of jobs for accountants. From accounting you could go into finance where opportunities are plenty. There are accountants who have gone to become Chief Financial Officers of companies. Make constant learning part of your job, whether it is on the job or taking some courses outside. Try do the best in whatever project you undertake in your job and your employers will see it. Good luck.

You could do a lot worse, but it's terminally boring. People will make jokes about you behind your back (what do accountants use as contraceptives? their personalities). If you're going to Uni study Economics and maybe law, if not get onto some sort of vocational accountancy course (part time, if necessary). Very senior accountants (board level) have a lot of power in the business world. I doubt that you would ever starve following that career.

It's a good career. Once you've qualified as a chartered or certified accountant it will practically be guaranteed that you'll nearly always be able to find work.
It is often boring but if you want excitement you can become a forensic accountant for security agencies etc

im gonna be started yr3 AAT in sept, and it does involve some business studies work. Accounting is not just all about figures as a lot of people on my course found out. For this year (equivalent of 1st year uni) u need to do a business project of a least 4000 words. There is also alot of analysis involved

It is a good job, my accountant charges me over £1300 per month to close down my accounts, all she does is checks my work and says it is fine, how easy is that!!!. I think that you will need to go to college to learn how to earn easy money
