Personally I like having a tan, even though I know that tanning is not healthy. We are weird like that, aren't we?

Yes!!! However, I can't stand women who go for the orange look. A natural sun kissed tan is just right. I prefer having a tan because it makes me look healthier, although, having said that I'm already naturally tanned - but still think I look better with a golden tan when I come back from holiday (my make-up also looks better too).

I think having a tan makes you look better, but it depends what shade you are to start with. If you are African, probably not much different, it you are Northern, English, Irish, fair skinned it would be difficult to get a tan without burning. Mediterranean area Greece, Italy, with beautiful olive skin to start with a tan just adds beauty to it.
One thing you need to remember regardless of who you are or what your genetic background is. Sun, and even tanning parlors can cause premature aging, or skin damage. Even skin cancer is a possibility.
I watched a talk show once and there was one of the Bay Watch babes on there. She said they never lay out in the sun, it is all sprayed on. I think that would be a good idea, because you have immediate results, then when you go out in the sun, you have a little protection against harmful rays of the sun.
Just remember a guy who likes you for your outward beauty may be looking for his own interests, not yours.

A nice glow makes a person look healthier, because after all it's beneficial for people to get 'some' sun, but people who are tan all the time are kind of gross I think. The sun is so damaging to the skin & it seems like everyone always wants to be tanned or else they feel unattractive. I have very pale skin but I never tan & only get a little sun. A lot of people don't like that, but my skin is a lot healthier because of it.

I'm naturally pale, especially during the Winter. But with an illuminating foundation my skin looks dewy and porcelain, which in my personal opinion looks just as good as to when I use fake tan. Some people go overboard with tan also; I see so many orange faces at school, it's not even funny.

Not necessarily. My skin naturally changes from tan in the summer to porcelain in the winter, and I like it. Actually by the time summer's over I'm tired of being tan and can't wait for it to fade. Personally, I think people who sit there and purposely ruin their skin baking are really kind of gross.... Whatever your skin color is naturally, embrace it and it'll look great. Anything works w/ confidence!
PS/ I agree with the girl up there who said that a slight healthy glow is good, but not necessarily a baked tan look.

Not necessarily. In the summer, most people get a bit tanned but it looks ridiculous to be chestnut brown in the dead of winter. Deliberately tanning oneself is actually really dangerous. Not many people seem to realise the dangers of skin cancers, like melanoma, which can be caused by over exposure to the sun. Plus, when you get tanned, you're ageing your skin thanks to the UV rays. Bottom line: getting a bit of a tan whilst you're outside is fine but spending hours on the beach, burning your skin is not a good idea. It's better to be pale instead of damaging yourself in the name of apparent beauty.

Not really. Everyones skin tone is different.. when some people try tanning, they end up looking orange and ridiculous.
Some peoples skin cannot cope with it either...
it's just people who listen to the media or whatever that think you have to be tanned and stick thin to be gorgeous.

if your in the sun, you can get uneven spots and premature wrinkles
it helps one look like they aren't someone who stays indoors and hangs out at the beach. - which is a hottie watering hole (usually) It also camoflauges any sins, and is a sign of wealth (vacations in the Carribean etc., spray tanning at spas) Also, helps coverup that paleness that is very usual in caucasian folk
I have yellow undertones, so in the winter I'm very fair with yellow undertones and tan in the summer. Most people think I look hot both ways

i think that people look good when they look like they've been out in the sun for a while, but when they tan themselves so much that they look orange or like they died their skin brown...then tans definitely don't make you look better
