4 x 1000 + (40+30+20+10) = 4000 + 100 = 4100.

1000+40=1040. 1040+1000=2040. 2040+30=2070. 2070+1000=3070. 3070+20=3090. 3090+1000=4090. 4090+10=4100, not 5000. 90+10= 100, so for those people who put 5000, they carried the one over to the thousands instead of the hundreds.

lol I love this question, because so many people often say 5000..
it sounds better if you say it though, rather than printing the numbers out, it doesnt trick them as much
