Lets say i have a Windows XP, 512RAM, 100GB computer and when i have like a bunch of things going all at once, like Winamp, Surfing the Internet, Downloading Online, Yahoo Widgets, etc..., if this goes on for a while, sooner or later, my computer will restart itself. I cut off that further, and my screen just goes blue with some words saying that an error has occurred, at which i have to shutdown my computer and then cut it back on. This problem even sometimes occurs when i use Limewire to download many files, large or small, and i do this over night.

Do i need to increase the RAM to get this to work, or will the same thing occur even if i do that. Is there a way to get my computer to multitask. I already tried Deleting History, Temporary Files, Cookies and Defragmenting and Disk Cleanup and the same still ends up occurring. I doubt its a virus or anything like that. I just think its because to many things going at once.

I don't believe you have a RAM issue, I believe you're overtaxing your processor. Depending on the type of processor you have, you can only accomplish so many tasks at one time. You also might have too many background programs running at one time, on top of the programs that you initiate. Download the program I have supplied a link for below, and find out exactly what's running on your system. Turn off anything that's not system critical this should free up some processor time.

I run 2Gb of RAM, and it crashes. My engineering friends even have 4 Gb of RAM, and get the blue screen.

Fact: Microsoft is NOT a multi-tasking system.

Here's why:
Microsoft is a consecutive processing system. IT runs one program at a time. Even when you have several windows open, with programs 'running', only the one that you are actually using is really processing. All others are in a holding pattern.

I run http://pclinuxos.com that you can DL for free, burn to CD, run in the LiveCDrom and if you like, install with a click.

Linux runs concurrent programs, and with upto 20 desktop environments, and their full permitted 200 open windows in each, you are limited to 4000 open programs.
