I have had a DNA test to prove I am my father's daugher.
Are the results of that test able to show I have any Native American Indian in my ancestry? My dad says he is 1/8 Osage which would make me 1/16 I would assume. Apparently his grandmother was embarrased to be American Indian and refused to have any conversation about it.
Does anyone out there know how to read a DNA test result?
What line would represent Native American Heritage?
Does this require a totally new and different kind of DNA test?
I would hate to pay for a new test if this one shows what I need.

A DNA test must be specifically looking for ancestry to determine your ethnicity. Your's was a paternity test - completely different. That means that the data on your ethnic background isn't on that report.

I am an MD. A paternity test will not generally tell you what your racial/ethnic background is, because they are only looking for identical sequences between you and your supposed father. If someone were very astute, they may be able to take the same data and also determine race/ethnicity but I doubt it. I did hear of a company that will do your racial profile for a small fee. However, since your father is 1/8 native american, and you only recieve 50% of what he's got, then there is a reasonably good chance that he is your father and yet by chance he didn't give you any native american DNA. Just keep that in mind when you get the test results back.
