Depending on what fertilizer you used and what the soil consists of.
If you used a chemical based fertilizer, they will often burn lawn with not enough water. water frequently for fast growth and good results. organic based fertilizers require less watering.

If your lawn is growing on a sandy soil, fertilizer will leach trough with too much watering and the opposite for clay soils

Depends on the type of fertilizer. Assuming that you have read the instructions on the label of the fertilizer package, here are some general rules:
1) Water deaply after applying, then follow your normal watering schedule there after.
2) If you spread organics over a lawn, you may only have to sprinkle lightly to get the material off of the grass leaves, then water as you normally would.
3) Many chemical fertilizers will burn grass if not watered into the ground and will burn even more if not deeply watered.
4) Watering too heavily and/or too often will leach some of the fertilizer away from the root zone (grasses are shallow rooting) and defeat the purpose of your application.
5) If you can predict weather, the ideal time to apply fertilizer is just before a good, soaking rain.

Read the bag of fertilizer and see if it reccommends watering immediately. Otherwise, water a lawn 2" a week. we water ours every third day for 30 minutes during the spring and summer. In the fall and winter, we don't water. We live in the northeast.

You may want to switch brands of fertilizer for a start. I would have a slight difference of opinion of how often to fertilize and would recommend once ever 2 months, remembering never to use more than manufacturers recommendations. Even if you're using a granular weed and feed I would still hold off applying too much of it.

If you don't get rain it needs water on a regular bases. Once a year should be fine for fertilizer, in the fall is good so it can set over the dormant season.
