Assembly is quite different from FORTRAN. (Which version of FORTAN?)

Assembly depends more on the PROCESSOR, and other controllers than the HD. (MOST schools don't even HAVE a course in assembly "basics" anymore!!!)
It is ONLY 1 step up from "machine code".
STRAIGHT assembly "overlooks" many of the "built-in" routines that are included in the processors, controllers, and BIOS ROMs these days.

First off, what do you mean you were hacked?

I'm not quite sure what your asking here but it sounds like you're wanting to get into reverse engineering. That's some pretty complex stuff. If your willing to dedicate years of study and practice to it then you could eventually figure it out. It's good that you already have some background in programming but FORTRAN and assembly are separated by many layers of abstraction. Assembly is FAR more complex then FORTRAN. If you are however dedicated enough to figure it out then here is a starting point.
