Your Direct X on your Windows disks might not be the newest ones. Usually, the game comes with the option to load the Direct X you need. If it doesn't have the option then you can go to windows updates and then Direct X on the left side of the screen. When the next screen appears you hit Get The Latest Direct X. From there is will take you through the process. Hope this helps. I hate games that have a technical tweak to play them. SSG Bitson

I have the Sims 2 and the correct version of Direct x should be included on the disc and probably install automatically. Browse the main disc and try to install this first.
If this doesnt work it is possible there is a fault with your copy of the software, or alternatively your systems hardware does not meet the minimum requirements.
It is quite demanding regarding the use of graphics cards and most systems sold these days have relatively poor or on-board graphics which will struggle to run the program smoothly if at all.
If you are content your system meets the harware requirements and you have installed the correct version of Direct X. Get a new copy of the game before you do anything else (take it back and exchange it).

Try changing the user security settings to default medium settings in your Internet Explorer and attempting again. I just recently had that problem in my daughter's computer, and it worked after I changed the settings. After wards, you may want to return the security settings to where they were before.

Did the game installation disc have the option to install DirectX9C on it? If so, choose to install it from that disc.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
