I am buying Sony Vaio laptop for Christmas, my girlfriend just purchased an Apple Macbook Pro. She has the built-camera in her computer as do I on the new Sony. She can video chat with her friends that also own new Apple computers, and it looks amazing. Is there any program that we can use to video chat between a PC and a Mac with the stunning video clarity between the two people chatting. Vidoe chatting on the Mac looks like full-motion video with no stopping or pausing.

Its not the same program. She uses IChat which is unique to Apple. I don't know of a program we could both use

Below are some cross-platform applications you and your girlfriend can try. The quality of video output will vary from application to application, but give each a go and see which works best for both of you.

1. Skype

2. Mercury Messenger

3. iSpQ VideoChat X

4. Yahoo! Messenger for Mac v3.0 beta now supports webcams, but voice calls is currently unsupported. The windows version supports both webcams and voice calls.

No problem. Video chat is done via the internet using programing that supports Mac and PC. The clarity and frame speed will depend on your Sony's built in equipment and your internet connection speed. (since you've already seen what the Mac can do.) Sony usually includes decent quality parts, so i don't think you'll see any problem.

BTW: Next time, buy a Mac. lol

Didn't see your additional info at first. Yahoo Instant Messenger allows you to video chat privately or in groups. Free software for Mac and PC from yahoo.com

I have a MacBook, so I know what you are talking about. If you want to video chat, make sure that ALL of your antivirus and spyware and stuff is turned OFF.
Videochatting works best between Macs, because they don't have any of the antivirus stuff. I've tried vid-chattin with PC user friends, and they just have to turn it all off before you can get a connection... don't worry... Mac isnt going to send you any viruses. oh, and it works best with AOL Instant Messanger
good luck with that
...oh, and if it still doesnt work, you can probably go with the one-way vid chat

Why get the Vaio? Get the Mac and install Windows on it (if you need/want to) and you'll have the best of both worlds. You can boot into Windows or run it from inside OS X using Parallels.
