The invasion of Gaza and the homicide of its human beings could stop at as quickly as needless to say. Will it? impossible. As a company and an proper I help the UN even though it particularly is powerless to act in this occasion because of the fact the U. S. has a veto on the risk-free practices council and could unfortunetly continuously use it to "shield" Israel, regardless it variety of feels of massacres or violations of world regulation (no longer that the present outgoing US administration provide a damn approximately worldwide regulation) i'm Agnostic (somebody who whilst asked is there a God would say i don't understand) yet as quickly as I have been a believer i could no longer, no longer, reconcile my perception in a God with my help for dropping bombs on civilians (be I Christian, Jew or Muslim for that rely) Israel does not care approximately worldwide opinion, Israels mentality is: they are basicallly all against us besides (different than the U. S. needless to say) so we will do what we wanna do, we are on our own. Israels mentality is a seige mentality, it particularly is the mentality of a people who see the worldwide as owing them something moreso than the different state. it particularly is the mentality of a baby with a gun.

It will stop when Palestinian children are taught the truth about the history of the whole region, not just what they THINK was once "palestine", but just how far "palestine" once stretched. They also need to learn the truth about when the term "palestine" was coined, by whom, for what purpose, and how much time the region has been independent since that time.

To understand why the conflict (no it's not a war, as Palestine is not a state, but just oppresed peoples under a foreign brutal and very harsh regime) still goes on, one must understand how this conflict came about.
To sumarise, around 1920s-1930s Zionist movement wanted very much to establish an Israel state - a home land for all the Jews. (This was necessary because 1. Jews and Gentiles(non-Jews) were not getting on together preatty well and 2. because in some places Gentiles and Jews were getting on too well, and fear was that the latter were loosing their identety). So, Zionist decided that the best place to establish this new state would be in the land where many generations before, Jews lived, which according to the Bible was promised to them by God, namely Jerusalem and surrounding territories. There was a slight problem however, as there resided idigenous population-namely Palestinians. To spell it out, how do you create a Jewish state in an area, which is predominatly not Jewish? And there were 2 slutions to this problem 1. Create a state where minority would lord over majority (like in times of Apertheid in South Africa). or the 2nd solution-way of transfer-basically kick the indigenous population out otherwise known as ethical cleansing. (as US did in North America).
Zionist movement gained support of British Empire, a formidable world power. Under it's mundane (basicaly governace, as they were 'looking after' the land) Jews and Palestinians begant to coexist in the 'promised land'. The mundane was ending in the year of 1948. up to 1948 there were often bitter fightning between Arabs and Jews and the British. The point is, 1948 came British left and Israel was established.. there was a war in which Isreal prevailed against surrounding Arab countries and the idigenous poplation.. subsequently, Palestinians were evicted from their land ( that is what today is called the refugee question, as many of these peoples, their children and grandchildren live in refugee camps now).
It's important to dispell an illusion, that perhaps some people have. The war was not because of hatred towards Jews, it was simply about land. The same as it would be quite silly to say that North Americans resited colonisation because they hated white people..
To exaplain what goes on today, in 1848 the Palestinians were given under the international law land to establish their state-namely West Bank and Gaza strip. so in the guise of war, Isreali have occupied these torretories and still occupy them today after almost 40 years. Moreover, they started expanding and building their Jew-only settlments on the illegaly occupied territories in breach of international law.
Resolution 242 has been voted for in UN many times; it is basically a two-state solution wherby Israel and Palestine agree to peace, full withdrawal of Isrealy forces from occupied territories, recognistion of each state by the other.. Basicaly, all that is necessary to have peace in the middle east. Everytime this resolution is voted for in the UN, the results are always the same, the whole world 160+states are for and (surprise surprise) Israel and USA are against.
Why are they against it? well, remember when i said at the begining there are 2 solutions to Zionist dillemma..it looks like they are implementing something like the 1st choice. a kind of Bantastan state (as tried in South Africa, many small black communities ruled by a chief, whilst elitist whites ruled over them ), so disconnecting territories with borderes controlled by Israel under Israeli military and econmic domination. Oh, and all that is necessary to 'defend' themselfs...
The the short answer is, Israel and USA do not really want peace, as things as they are, suit both countries fine. I realise, my answer might seem one sided, as i did not explain 'terrorist' attacks on Israel, but that because i hope it's clear now, that it's only effects of the conflict and not it's cause. I also did not explain many 'pace talks' that occured, that is because, essentially Israel terminated any deals which would be at least fair under international law (Saudi plan etc) on the other hand, representatives of Palestine did not agree to anything that would completely ruin their peoples (camp david 2000 etc).
*EDIT*
This is a 'strategic' reason why US is so involved: Israel serves as off-shore US military base. At the moment, Israel has the bigger army then ANY of NATO country. It necessary because the US wants to establish a hegemony over world in general and mid-east in particular, as thats where most of the oil is-the most important strategic asset.
In terms of Revenues from war, to be honest, i think it's overall a loss. since the establishment of Israel, US has givent them over $100 billion by 2000 much much more now, this is direct aid, 10% or so of which is spent automaticaly by Israel on US-made weponary. Here, is where some profits made by US high-tech firms. But its a loss to a country as a whole i would think.
none of the 2 points above may explain very well why the conflict is still on, so to reiterate my point earlier, land & domination are what all conflicts in history have been about and these seem to be in my opinion as 'strategic' reasons as they come.
