Everyone needs money to exist in society? We all need clothing, food, shelter, ect. However, are you someone who is not impressed with having an excessive amount of wealth? If you were left a large monetary inheritance, would you choose to live a modest lifestyle, and possibly treat yourself to something special, but not excessively so, such as with three or four very large mansions, many cars, very expensive clothing, ect?

Do you feel those who purchase excessively, simply because they can, do so to impress others, or to blend in with the lifestyle around them? If one purchases designer labels, and expensive items, simply to impress other people, is there really a point to it all other than ego and pride? Also, why are people intimidated or awe struck by people who have wealth? Aren't we all human?

Years ago I was standing next to a well known celebrity, and people around me were literally out of control with excitement. Many wanted to talk with me afterwards to see what it felt like to be that close to this person. I just didn't understand it. I have no problems with using wealth to help improve the world for everyone in terms of health, food, ect. But I just don't understand why many are viewed as almost close to perfect because they posess money.

You ask a profound question in our materialistic age. I would like to claim to be such a person, but I know my heart. As someoe once asked a business tycoon, "How much is enough?" and the man answered, "More."
My wife and I attempt to tame the tiger by giving as much away as we can. It never seems enough as God always pours more into our laps.

First, i like to be a wealthy guy. Yes, materialistic or whatever.. As you said, people who want to exist in society needs money, materials. Without clothes, you're naked. Without house, you're exposed. Without food, you're a hunger? These all are materials gained by money. For what farmers plant vegetables? For what fisherman gone fishing? Don't they all do it for something? When you get to the top, everything are common. You want to own branded, priceless things. That's because you deserve them. I have moneys, and now I want a place to live. I bought a house. Now I need transport, I buy a car. Now I need safety, I bought an expensive car for it features. As long I own the moneys, and I capable of it, I would'nt think twice. It's not about are you a materealistic or what, it's you yourself thinking, intellectual and of course the ability. That's me, not impressed by wealth nor poverty.
And, people intimidated by those(wealth), that's because they want to gain the same thing. Don't you dream a mother when you don't have one?

Absolutely. I have no need for monetary things in life. If I have a roof over my head, food in my stomach and clothing on my back ... I'm a happy woman.

I have never really understood some people's fascination, with those who have money. Celebrities are another thing that confuses the hell outta me. They're people, just like you and I. Because they have a job that exposes them to the public eye, on a continuous basis, does not impress me in the least. Money? all it is is a piece of paper ... to me anyway.

The kind of people that did impress me are ... Princess Diana or Mother Theresa . People who actually make a difference in this world ......

I am so much like you. I dated some wealthy men who really liked me. I dated a professional baseball player who tracked my mother down to try to find me. I never noticed what kind of car anyone is driving. My first husband was 15 years older than me with no money. He lost his job & I ended up supporting him. If I came into some money, I would take care of the few people I have left, make sure I had enough & then give the rest to animal rescue & Disabled Veterans.

I'm not as impressed with people with great wealth as I am with people who possess great skill/character.

My husband is brilliant in terms of carpentry, construction, mechanics and strongly skilled in other fields, but we don't have a lot of money. However, I'm secure in the knowledge that if we need it, he can either recreate it from scratch, invent and make it on his own and teach me to do the same. And THAT is impressive.

If one can do for himself, he'll find that - much of the time - he doesn't need money as badly as someone who can't do for himself.
