Well that all depends, right now it would be Gandalf but if you ask me after the next Harry Potter book comes out I might have another answer for you. Thinking back to all the fantasy books I have read my second choice would be Dumbledore and then Brom. Who do you think is the greatest wizard of all time?

I believe that it is Merlin. Think about it. He is in the history books and you learn about him before you realize you are watching a movie based on him (The Sourcerer and the Stone, King Arthur). Where as just recently Harry Potter has come out but do you hear about any of them in the history books.........NO! You need to go with Merlin.

Hmm! Well of course tiz Merlin! BUT!!!! no-one has mentioned the Wizard of Earthsea, perhaps they just ain't read it. Tiz by Ursula le Guin, and I don't think you can decide until you have read it. Puts Potter in the shade.

Merlin, of course! No other historical figure has appeared in so many different stories, legends, religeons and myths. Britains oldest known name was 'Myrrdin's Precinct' (myrrdin being another of his names) he is tied in with the legends of King Artur Mac Aiden (Son of the first king od Scotland), Arthur Pendragon (the welsh King Arthur figure) and Arturius (the Roman legend) Christianity and Druidism have links with Merlin, as do many pagan sects. He crops up with different names and faces in so many different stories; currently he is known only as 'The Doctor'.....

It would be difficult to say, some might say Belgarath as he is the master of the Will and the Word, and then theres Polgara as well, she just may be even more powerful than Belgarath, others might say Pug, as he is a master of the greater and lesser paths.
