Hi i am from Baroda
Basically the 800 and alto have same enigne but alto has got more valves.
About your question :
800 has better fuel efficiecy. Here are the figures
City
Alto :17-17.5 kmpl
800: 19-19.4/19.5 kmpl
Highway(with sensible driving)
Alto : 22-22.5 kmpl
800: 23-24 kmpl
These are the figures if you are not lead footed.
If you are about to buy a car and have narrowed down to these two cars then let me advice you for ALTO.
I have met with an accident with an oncoming Qualis on NH8 near baroda. I came out with minor injuries.
Alto is really a safe and solid car that is sold in Japan and was once a segment leader in Netherland market before the Swift came.
So if you are about to decide, go in for Alto

Alto's mileage is slightly lesser than the 800's. In city driving with A/C on, Alto does about 17.5 km whereas 800 does about 19 km to a litre of petrol.

M-800 definitely gives more mileage cause its lighter than Alto by 80kgs. But because Alto is more solid, sturdy and better balanced resulting in better road handling and grip, it is wise to go for an Alto. Also space is more compared to M-800. I`m getting around 20km/lt in Bangalore citydriving conditions. M-800 will give you 2kms more per litre.
