I have one desktop pc with zone alarm and a laptop with wifi connected to a linksys router to share internet. I use the laptop to download many things so It might have a virus. In the other pc I have many important things and I don't want that a hacker that manage to get in my laptop may "go" to the other computer through the laptop. C: is not shared in any of both so I can't see my desktop files from the laptop.

My question is: Can a hacker infect my desktop pc if he already control my laptop?

Many thanks to all of you, Regards from Buenos Aires.

I disabled the "share files/printer" and "windows network client" (I am not sure how it is in english) in both pc. Also, the name of the workgroup is different for each pc. Also, C: is not allowed to be shared in any. Is that enough? Can I download anything in my laptop without worrying my desktop pc will be infected?

The short answer is Yes.

Once a hacker has compromised a machine in a network, it is very possible for the hacker to use the compromised machine to stage an attack inside your network.

Think about leaving your door open to your house but all doors in the house are locked.......once inside, the person can work on the locked interior doors....which was not possible when locked out of the house.

If the pc is not sharing the files then nobody can access it. You would have to first allow file sharing in order to access those other files. Check your laptop for viruses and any other thing if you are worried. www.grisoft.com download yourself the antivirus and the antispyware.
