The x2 means that there are actually 2 processors so that applications that have multicore support can run faster on the x2 machine even that on a 1.6+1.6 single core. Unfortunately not many programs currently support this but it is sure to change soon especially with both Intel and AMD pushing multicore systems. In conclusion for the moment no. If you want to use just one application that is not optimized for multiple cores it will only work up to 1.6 but if you run multiple applications or aplications designed to take advantage of hte technology it will work even faster. :D Hope this helped

The X2 means that it is a dual core processor. You have two cores both running at 1.6 GHz. If you are using a multithreaded application the workload is split between the two, making it go faster. You can also divide up the work maually to get more speed out of it.

I agree with Myles but with further explanation. It's a 64-bit processor whereas the Intel processors are only 32-bit. Also, these AMD 64-bit processors use MUCH less energy, ideal for laptops.

No, but dont think its a crap processor just cos it has a low clock speed. It can still hold its own against a pentium.
