First of all say to yourself - I am good and I will do well. That extra boost of confidence will carry you far in the interview. Here are some specific steps to take.
1) Prepare. Interview is a two way street. So, think about what questions to ask them. Analyze the company and the division you will be interviewing. You may want to search the Internet for some latest news about the company. Jot down some relevant questions about the company and your job. For example, "I read that the number of subscribers for your business seems to have jumped quite a bit in the recent quarter. How do you see the next few quarters?" or "I saw that your company acquired XYZ. What impact, if any, does it have on the position I am applying for?"
2. Note down some major accomplishments of yours and weave them into three or four little 1-2 minute stories. For example, the time in a previous job where you demonstrated fast learning. At the appropriate time use these stories. Prepare this in such a way it has the following components - what was the problem, what was your solution, what was the result? Such stories emphasize your strengths with examples rather than simply saying "I am good at xyz". Also, think about one weakness of yours and learn to put a positive spin around it. For example, "I am generally shy but in the last job I made sure that I improved on it. I have invited....I will continue to improve here."
3. Listen carefully. If possible, take notes on what people say during the interview. Write down their names, tieles, and email addresses so that you can send them thank you emails.
4. Close the interview with one or two of your strengths. State how enthusiastic you are about the job and citing your strength say why you will be a great match.
5. Smile and show energy and enthusiasm.
6. Don't smoke or eat smelly foods (e.g. garlic) before the interview. Avoid alcoholic drinks if you go for lunch or dinner with your employers. Also avoid foods that will take over your mouth such as a huge sandwich.
7. Wear conservative and clean outfits.
8. Arrive 10 minutes before the interview
9. Before you enter relax. If singing a song will make you do that, do so in your head.
10. Tell yourself -- I am good and I am going to do well.
Good luck.

Put your hair in a nice ponytail with a clip or a nice low bun, not messy. Or use a headband but make sure it's a very sophisticated one so you don't look young. Don't wear black on top. That will be too severe. Colors have been studied to evoke certain emotions and a pale blue shows that you're honest, friendly, approachable. That will be the impression. Minimal make up, very plain minimal jewelry. A watch and a plain necklace or a watch and plain studded earrings. A watch always looks professional. I always look to see if someone wears one. Look the person in the eye. Try not to look away during the interview. Don't fidget. Clasp your hands lightly together so you aren't tempted. Don't take too long to answer but don't answer right away and say something you didn't mean to because you thought you should answer quickly. Think of questions they might ask ahead of time and practice your answers. Not the whole answers or it will sound contrived. Just remember your key words. Think of situations where you accomplished things, solved problems, handled a conflict, got along well with others, etc. This is what employers are looking for. Turn all your skills into positive ones. You work well with a diverse group of people. That's very important. Handle stress well, can work independently, follow instructions well, only have to be told once how to do something, fast learner, show attention to details, very meticulous in your work, will stay late to get the job done, are punctual, don't miss unless it is a true emergency, you're dependable, etc. You must think of what the shop is looking for in you and how you will give that to them. Don't focus on what you HAVE done so much but what you WILL do for them. If they ask how you would handle a difficult customer, FIRST say you would certainly never deviate from the shop's policies. Then launch into how you would calm the customer. The fastest way I can tell you from experience is to agree with them, get that out of the way so you can talk calmly together and resolve the issue. Once you agree there is a problem (and there IS a problem if they are upset) then you must move quickly to say let's see what we can do to resolve this. A customer is not going to be satisfied with anything until they have calmed down first and realize you are working with them to fix it. Then it comes down to this. When there are 2 people and both are equally qualified, the most enthusiastic will get the job. It's not shameful to come right out and say "I really want this job! I think it sounds exciting and I will work so hard for you!" Never say you NEED the job but you can say you want it. I've hired tons of people and the ones who show they really want it are sometimes chosen over those who have more qualifications. Skills can be taught. I have no time to teach attitude.

I've been told I interview really well - I've always just gone in, shown interest, be friendly, and if you know the company, do a little research about them beforehand. You can work that info somehow into the "do you have any questions for me" time.
Example: I just read an article about how Johnson & Johnson was changing the software package used to track incoming client service calls. What is the normal learning curve with this new software package? Have you had any feedback from employees about the new software?
Something along that line.
Also, I never act like I'm just going to die if I don't get the job..I don't want to appear overly anxious or like I am desperate.
Make sure your physical appearance is appropriate too.
Good luck. Just be yourself.

Wear clean, pressed clothes that are not cheap polyester. Also, have well done hair and makeup. Don't over apply make up. Most people like to see a moderate amount of makeup because it shows that you know how to keep up appearances. Sit up straight in your chair. When you meet the person interviewing you, STAND UP and give a firm, but not bone crushing handshake. Oh yeah, if you have long hair, pull it back on a low pony tail. Ask questions about the company during the interview. People love to talk about their company and their job. This will show that you are really interested in working there. Never talk about your weaknesses.
