I'd appreciate more views from US citizens to my original question. Especially from the Christian & neo conservative right that seem to frequent these pages so often.

I am not from the American right and you can be sure those you
hear from are not kind people, I just hope you understand they do not represent America as a whole!!
As far as our contribution I don't think its fair to say we started the fire but we certainly poured fuel on it,,,I say this because Britain as all of western Europe was a target long before our adventure into Iraq ! As far as the IRA and your first question as an Irish American I brought up that fact after 9/11..sorry to say they are completely ignorant to what they have done!

A lot. In the 1970s, 80s and 90s when the UK was under attack from the IRA terrorists the main source of support for the terrorists was in New York and Boston.
IRA fund raisers were very active there and the main fire arm for the gunmen was the american Armalite rifle.
It's no coincidence that when New York got a taste of its own medicine on 9/11 the funding suddenly stopped and IRA have been neutralised so that disaster at least saved some lives in the UK

Millions of dollars in voluntary contributions to PIRA but I don't think any other campaigns were supported by ordinary Americans. The US Government is another matter - the Contras in Nicaragua were terrorists on any definition (targeted largely civilians and civil institutions - schools, hospitals etc., no uniforms, no recognised status by UN). Also the Cuban exile terrorists who attacked discos in Havana and once blew up an airliner (civilian) - these killers live freely in USA above the law. all decent people support the action against Al Quaeda and deplored the attacks on NYC and Washington DC - we expect USG support against any terrorists anywhere.

The US has been a state sponsor of terrorism, as has the UK, for quite some time now. I'll give you one example (where they worked together) and then you have to do your own research.

Look out for a guy called Kermit Roosevelt, CIA operative and US presidential relative. In 1950s Iran, the democratically elected, anti-communist, friend-of-the-west leader was called Mossadeq. The big oil company in Iran at the time was British Petroleum (BP). After a disagreement over oil rights, US & British agents (including Kermit, who was later to talk about it (proudly) in a radio interview) began a programme of planting bombs (deliberately targetting & killing civilians (including women & children) contrary to the Geneva convention) and distributing thousands of flyers (that they had printed) in the aftermath which stated "Up with Mossadeq | Up with communism | Down with Allah". The rest is history, but for those not up to speed: Public opinion turns [predictably] against Mossadeq. The [west's puppet] Shah is put in power. Islamic fundamentalism builds up a head of steam. The puppet is deposed by the country's Islamic spiritual leader (ayatollah). The US starts bemoaning the democratically elected leader.. See a pattern emerging here?

Unbelievable but true. Like the following:

Did you know that the US had 30,000 Korans printed for the Islamic shools (madrassas) that they helped to fund in Pakistan over the last twenty-five years and that are now claimed to be a major source of Islamist terrorists?

Did you know that in Summer 2001, General Mahmud of Pakistan's ISI ordered the transfer of $100,000 to Mohammed Atta (the alleged lead hijacker of 9-11)? Or that he was in Washington on Spetember 11 as a representative of the Taliban (Source: MSNBC, October 7th 2001)? He resigned after the transfer was disclosed in The Times of India (October 11th 2001) and confirmed by the FBI...

Did you know that Osama bin Laden received treatment for Kidney disease at the American hospital in Dubai July 4-14, 2001 and received a visit from a CIA official who returned to CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia on July 15th (Source: Le Figaro, October 31st 2001).

Please, don't just take my word for any of this. Do some research but be prepared for some unpalatable truths.

seems like none of our american brothers want to answer to that. it would be interesting to see how much they would want to fund the I R A now they have had a taste of what london, manchester. and other places in the uk and northern Ireland lived with for years. while i do feel sorry for the people who lost there lives in 9/11 you cant help but think.

The US are a large contributor to the terrorism crisis because they use EU countries like pawns in a game of chess, and there is nothing we can do because we all owe them so much money.
