There are soaps you can use just for newborns, like dreft. Unfortunately these still have chemicals in them that can induce allergies and other problems.
Also, a lot of people use Lysol and harsh chemicals for cleaning the nursery- for fear of germs- this is really bad- it can cause allergies, hinder the maturing of the baby's immune system and all other manner of problems.
A good hepa/ charcoal air purifier for the baby's room, especially if you have pets, get a little steamer - they come with a scrubber, drapery attachments, etc- you only use water and the steam is enough to kill the germs, use a little vinegar for tough spots- wash chewed on toys with the steamer and vinegar- much safer than bleach and effective. As for clothing- go to a health food store or look online for all natural, chemical free laundry detergents. Sometimes they seem to be a little spendier but more often than not, you will use less of it than the stuff in the stores.
Put the clothes in the washer on gentle cycle, if you have a second rinse option, I would use it.

Launder as usual just use half the manufacturers recommended amount of soap. If possible, run the clothes through the rinse cycle twice. Also, try to stay away from fabric softeners. The perfumes can irritate a babbies sensitive skin. Hope this helps. As for cleaning the nursery, I always just used a mixture of half cleaner (windex) and half water. For things like floors, I'd wash once rince twice. The main thing is to make sure no residue is left over.

For clothes and bedding, use Dreft, and whatever you do, DO NOT use fabric softener. Not only may she be allergic, but even if she isn't, fabric softener removes any flame retardant that may be on her clothes.

To clean the nursery (meaning the floor), you can use a regular all-purpose cleaner, but make sure you get one that is unscented, and air out the room before you put the baby back in.

Ivory snow or dreft is good for the laundry. As far as cleaning the nursery, I just used a good soap and water. I used nothing with a strong or chemical smell.

There's a laundry soap called Dreft that is very safe for babies' clothes. Baking soda is a very safe product that can be used for cleaning surfaces.

There is a brand name detergent called Dreft that is specifically for babies clothing and crib sheets, etc. A little pricey, but lasts quite a while. You can also use any of the dye-free, perfume-free brands and just use a little less, so it all rinses out well.

i am expecting, and everyone reccommends dreft or a hypoallergenic, fragrance-free (expensive) I will simply use slightly less of my normal detergent. my mother did this for me when i was a baby and i am just fine with no strange allergies.
