They cannot refuse the application on those grounds. they can only refuse it if they are not accepting any applications at that time. they can refuse to hire you on the grounds that you have a relative working there and nepitism is against thier company policy. Proving something like this can be almost impossible they can list any number of reasons for not hiring you.

No, it would be discrimination, as would rejecting other people to give the job to the bosses relatives. It's very easy to think it's unfair your relative didn't get the job because you're related, but them not have been good enough for it in the first place. I work with my uncle and he's my foreman and did give me a reference for the job, but I have kept the job by proving I can do it well.

Yes. Many employers will not hire relatives of current employees.

They usually try not to hire too many of the same family. It is because if a death or some crisis happens there are not as many of their employees gone.

Yes. I worked for a national payroll processing company. They will not hire you if you have a relative working there and, if you become romantically linked to someone who also works there, one of you has to give up your job, unless you have both been there at least 18 months, in which case one of you must apply for a transfer.

I think employers can do that. As long as it is not racial or discrimination based on certain disability they can do any thing. For example they can say we do not hire short men or smokers.

They can refuse to employ you if their security systems could be broken by two members of staff working in collusion.

If they have a policy against nepotism (the hiring of relatives) they can.
