Yes I'm currently serving in Afghanistan and have been to Iraq too. 90% of the Afghans appreciate us and help us. To bad the media never shows that part. I guess it's not good press?

The problem is that the US is often cheered when it first enters a country, but then there is growing disquiet when, months later it is still there like an unwelcome party guest.

Sadly, when the danger appears to be over people ask "why are the troops still here in our country ?", not realizing that the enemy would return if the troops where gone.

Even in Iraq people are saying "But Saddam is in jail - why are you still here ?".

You know as we as I do that, if the US pulled out of either Afghanistan or Iraq tomorrow there would be chaos", but not everyone sees it that way.

Remember: When the peacekeepers go, the warlords return.

No, the world and the United States would not be a better place.
The US depends on certain imports from other countries that they can make much cheaper than we can or can make better than we do. Likewise, we export many things that are badly needed by other countries such as medicine, agriculture, and many different technical devices.

Read the book called "The world is flat". It shows how interdependent the countries of the world have become. We outsource much work but in return get cheap products and sell products to these countries to enable them to perform the outsourced jobs.

Withdrawing our troops from around the world would be a bad idea as it would greatly endanger our security. We need bases around the world to allow us to react quickly to threats.

Sealing our borders is not a good idea because it is probably impossible and would cost trillions. The taxpayers could not afford it.

To do what you say some people (mostly liberal democrats) say would in my view be a total disaster.

I have an idea that you and most people would agree.

There will be chaos. Everything is a chain reaction. Communist countries will bully small countries that are allies with the United States. The U.S will lose a lot of money because we do a lot of export and imports with other countries. Prices will spike on products we bought from other countries. I think that our country is very misunderstood. We just want a better world but other countries don't like us because of what our government has done. There's a lot of things the us government has done that we americans don't know about. It's these deeds that causing people from other countries to hate us.

No the world would not be a better place.
If all of the military left and we stopped sending money to other countries then that might stop the flow of bitterness we are receiving (nobody likes the cops when you don't need them).
But without free trade most businesses would collapse. There is hardly anything produced or sold without an international component.

The gov't can't fix all of the problems here.

Too many people will disagree with anything the gov't does...

THe gov't can't stop people here from killing each other, doing drugs, or making them be responsible for their own lives (ie - get a job and work instead of being on welfare).

You are over there right? You are one of the ones who *could* tell us if we're actually helping over there. From the guys (I don't think I know a woman that's been...) I've talked to living on Army posts - they say we're doing good...

If we did that, the rest of the world would starve in chaos.
The whole world depends on the US. TOO MUCH.
The News Media does not want us to know the truth from over there.
BLESS YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I think every country, even the US would fall apart. Helping others is what EVERYONE should do.
