That is, different games with different set of rules?
Or they are names of same game which changes its name from one country to another?

Please tell as I really don't know.

The terms football and soccer are two different names for the same game of "association football". Soccer is widely used in North America and other parts of the world to show the difference between other sports such as the NFL which also use the name football.

Personal rant for me is how you can call a game Football when you use your hands 99 per cent of the time is beyond me.

The term Football is used almost exclusively in Europe to describe the game govened by UEFA and FIFA which bring the joys of the world cup to everyone every four years.

Enjoy Your football or soccer coz they are the same thing but remember always be true to your team.

*** ON YOU R's!!!!!!!

I'm with you all the way.especially the Americans calling their silly game football. Anyone who has seen that game ,if only for a minute will know that the ball is in their hands more than it is on the ground. We English should stick together and refuse to acknowledge the word soccer and tell any Americans we meet about the " Beautiful game " FOOTBALL as it is played in England ! OK I concede that some European and S. Americans have some good teams !

Well...both of those games are variations of the aincent game of Gridiron where there was a goal for each side and players could pick up the ball and run with it and you could even hurt eachother.

Rules have changed dramatically since then and we now have several very very popular games (rugby, soccer/futball, and football).

In soccer/futball...you can't use your hands and is much less violent.

In rugby you can use your hands and it's more violent than soccer/futball.

In football....you generally use your hands, the goal is pretty much a rectangular flat area and you almost always use your hands except for the field goal which holds less value than the end area.

Football or Soccer (in North America) is the same thing in Europe, though you'll be hardpressed to find anyone calling it Soccer except North Americans on vacations.

"American Football" and Football/Soccer are not the same thing; but if you live in North America (and possibly other places in the world), you'll use Soccer and Football (American Football) to call the games.

In the US, football and soccer are two different games. However, in many European countries, when they say football, they are refering to the game americans call soccer. I believe football is an american game.

Its like hoover when the action is vacuum clean.

A lot of games are catagorised as football, but soccer is the most popular so to call it football is easier.

RFC: rugby football club
gaelic football
american football
aussie rules football.

I Hope you get the analogy with hoover this is not a verb but a brand name which people adopted to call vacuuming.
