Please excuse my English, I am still learning it.

On this site I see people type that Americans are all over weight and not cultured. When I went to the U.S. there were no more fat people than there are in my country. I also met some of the most intelligent people, and plus, one of my closest friends is American and she is brilliant.

And also, the whole deal about the rest of the world hating Americans is ridiculous. I mean, you get your idiots that will but in general they do not.

I have learned that it is not the American people that the rest of the world doens't like, it's the politics and policies of the government. Sometimes it comes across as anti-american. I do wish that the ones who are saying these things would get to know some Americans as you have. There are good and bad from everywhere.

Weight is an increasing problem all over the world. But eating healthy is more work and more expensive, something I discovered as soon as I tried to reduce the amount of salt in my diet.

Culture is hard to define, worse to try judging...especially in those different from us. Honesty, for example, differs greatly among countries and even within a country. Being polite, being helpful...a lot of these qualities are overlooked or there's a mistaken reputation. New Yorkers are surprisingly friendly and helpful, although that isn't their reputation.

The image that others have of us comes from different sources. Many people are raised to feel guilty, and they deal with this by pointing their fingers at others, accusing, and saying we should all feel guilty. Read a newspaper or watch the TV news and look for evidence of this. It's a bias present in both American and foreign news. My father came from Europe and got a newspaper in his native language, but then stopped getting it. He said they criticized America too much and did it by only telling half of the story. A lot of American news sources do this, too. It can also be a problem in college and university culture, both here and abroad.

Your English is extremely good. I wish more people here could write that well.

People love to put down Americans but the truth is they are the friendliest most kind hearted people in most of the world.

We mean well but sometimes we get off on the wrong path like everyone else.

I have found out that many people judge a whole nation by a few of its citizens.
