Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

I am using both AVG 7.5 as well as Kapersky 6.0. I know I should not be having two anti virus programs at the same time. But so far so good, no clashes. I find Kapersky is more effective especially in preventing intrusions and it also has a firewall. AVG is quite good too. It got rid of the brontok virus as well as the highly dangerous internet worm RaVMon .Exe It also detected Adware Generic. I used AVG earlier than Kapersky. I find Kapersky updates has more definitions each time I update it. ..Just to let you know from my experience. If I have to choose between the two I think I would keep Kapersky.

Free ones, AVG or AVAST. I like and paid for Kaspersky Anti Virus, it updates several times everyday. Nortons has a reputation for slowing down the ole computer. I haven't tried them all, but I give the nod to Kaspersky

Kaspersky 6.x is the best (x is the current version # they are up to. I don't always keep up to date w/ the version #s) Really any version will work as long as the antivirus definitons stay up to date. My friend uses norton 2002 and has not gotten infected once...

Dont get Norton or McAfee, they are so bloated with crap they will
slow down your computer. There's a good list of popular ones here.
