So, I have been showing for about ten years now, AQHA, in a hunt cap.
I usually keep my hair pulled into a low bun, and keep it in a "show hairnet" near the nape of my neck.
The overall appearance is okay, but i wanted to know how ya'll get it to stay tucked up in the hunt cap.
I have really thick hair that is in a long layer so if you could keep that in mind in your answer that would be great.

I have about an 1/8 of an inch to work with, and buying a new size up isn't a problem either.
When my hair is under there it get's all "poofy" and the helmet barely sits on the top of my crown.
maybe i should just shave my head...

My hair falls below my shoulder blades, is thick and cut in layers. Here's what I do:
I use a flat, long-ish barrette and gather the hair from my ears forward into that barrette. It sits on the top of my head, close to the scalp. Next I take a second, slightly curved barrette and gather up the rest of my hair, curve side down, at the nape of my neck or the bottom/back of my hairline. I flip the pony tail from the bottom barrette up and over the back of my head, ending on top of the first barrette at the top.
Last, I use a hairnet the same color as my hair, and catch the barrette at the bottom, encircle my ears (lobes too) and pinch it tight at my forehead. Put the helmet on, back to front, making sure the hairnet covers the hainet at the front. Bring the hairnet up from around your earlobes, but keep the tips of your ears covered. Tuck any stray ends with your fingers, or bobby pins if needed.
It takes some practice, but I find this method works the best for big haired girls like us ;)

Hi,
I am glad you ride in a helmet. To get your hair up underneath, purchase a hairnet. (Cost about 50 cents each!) Put your hair in the hairnet (no pony-tail or bun), bend over, and put you helmet on from the back. You know, pull it down towards the floor, and catch your hair. Hope this helps.
PS-Most the time you have to increase your helmet size by 1/8-1/4 of an inch to accomedate for all the extra hair.
Folowing NOTES: I would reccomend using bobby-pins with your hair net. Or possibly just shaving your head...lol! Some people also, cake their hair in gel. It works, but not the prettiest when you take your helmet off!

bobby pins and hair spray!! the best way is to style your hair for the helmet when it's wet so that way its a bit thinner and easier to put up into your helmet. the other thing is you may need to get a size bigger helmet ofr all the extra hair. while your hair is wet, put it back into a pony tail at the nape of your neck do a single twist upwards and put the hair flat on the back of your head, then pull the hair net over and bobby pin in place. this should get all hair up in helmet neatly and without alot of extra thickness in one place. hope helps and good luck showing

I have really thick hair too and my hunt cap hurts my forehead if I try to stuff it all under.
I always used a hair net bun barrette thingy too.
Sorry I never found a solution either.

first put your hair in a pony tail, then put a hairnet (you can get nice ones at local tack shops)over your pony tail and make another pony tail. Then flip the doubled pony tail over your head and put your helmet on.
