both have an effect , I feel appearence probally has the most impact ......you can go in public and just not talk a lot and still get by without people seeing your preceived personality defects , but with physical appearence you may be to insecure to even get out in public .........

Hard to say. If a person is not so secured regarding his or her physical appearance that could only means only one thing, his or her personality is already in shamble. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and one physical appearance can not be accepted the same way by every one.

Everything outside of individual consciousness creates insecurity. Physical appearance and personalities is that which is our creation and belong to external world...security can be found only within where creative consciousness reside. In simple terms our ignorance and beliefs which is build out of our 5 senses designed to perceive only external world which by sequence historically being insecure . Humanity existing in search of security. Idea that knowledge is a security hardly to be proven...More we "know" more complexes we creating and any created complex is living insecurity, which we are bravely trying to secure, that creates new complexes in addition..and so on...vicious circle. Well we are continue to rely on knowledge. We do not know any other way...those who know was rejected and still.

I think insecurities about physical appearance will cause personality issues until you are insecure about your personality

If you're physically unattractive you will lack confidence which in turn will affect your personality. Then again, I've met some incredibly insecure good looking women so it could work both ways.

ironic as it may seem, I think the more good looking a person is, the more insecure they feel about their appearance, like a good looking girl who thinks she's not as good looking as the next.
And with personality, it is usually the smart and intelligent girls that also are afraid to speak out.
So it seems ironic, but the ones with good looks are insecure abotu their looks, and the ones with the personalities are afraid to speak up.

I think both. But from my own experience, I can tell you that my boyfriend is really and I mean, really good-looking, and he didn't approach me for several years because he had issues regarding his personal life, thus affecting his personality. So, in his case his physical appearance didn't make him a more confident person. It all depends, I've met several people who aren't very good-looking and use their personality to compensate for it.

Physical appearance, because it is the more obvious--it takes time to get to know someone is a jerk--especially if they have learned how to hide it.
