Now, when King Richard went off Crusading he actually went off Crusading. Himself. Sword in hand, soldiers at his back. He was 'the Lionheart' because, for all that the Crusades were disastrous holy wars that killed thousands of people for no good reason (look! a parallel!), he fought well and bravely in battle, again and again. Himself. See the difference?

The crusades were fanatical religious against fanatical religious.
AND Bush is NOT a king. He has no absolute power. (Thank God no US president does.) And King Richard's minions played under a different set of rules. They did not worry about world opinion, and they did not have the news media of the world to sway opinion either!

King Richard was a monarch, Bush is head of a Democracy. Big difference.
Both of their wars were total failures.

The people of Richard's time may have approved of his warmongering, but the verdict of history is that the Crusades were wrongheaded and a disaster. Same as for Iraq.
