I just found out that when my great grandfather and great grandmother were married and had children, that Jamacia was a British colony. Does this make me British in my family line then? It seems obvious, but I'm not sure. They are registered with British birth certificates, but I'm not sure. Tell me what you think.

It's hardly a great revelation that Jamaica was British territory up to 5 August 1962, and yes Jamaicans were British citizens up until then. Hundreds of Jamaicans came to the UK, as British passport holders, after World War II, starting with the famous SS Empire Windrush immigrants in May 1948.

With reference to your question, your great grandparents were undoubtedly British citizens. With independence, their citizenship transferred to that of Jamaica. You will have no right to acquire British citizenship.
