I'm sorry, but I'm 29 yrs old & needed to answer your question.
I feel the same way about cartoons these days. Although, I do love Courage the Cowardly Dog on Cartoon Network.

I'm 23 also. I miss the cartoons that had morals and stuff. These cartoons now are vulgar as can be. That "Mr Meaty" is by far the grossest, most vulgar thing I've seen yet and I cant believe they direct it at young children. Ive two little ones at home and about the only channel I can trust besides Nick Jr is PBS. Cartoon network has gotten a lot of shows that are more for older kids like teenagers now. If it weren't for the parental controls on tv I wouldn't even allow my kids to watch it.

It all started to go downhill in the 80's, around the time when MC Hammer, New Kids On the Block and Little Shop of Horrors became their own cartoon series.; then it all went straight to hell when I watched a cartoon one Saturday that ended in the character becoming a live action human, and it turned out to be a one hour commercial for Saved By The Bell.

On the other hand, adult cartoons have gotten better and better.

I'm 27 and agree with you. There are a few every so often that come out that are ok, but the best cartoons were when I was younger. The only thing that reminds me of some of those cartoons are today's anime. Some of them remind me alot of the old style of cartoons that I used to love watching. You can watch some of the old cartoons on youtube.com, so I spend a lot of time sifting through what is posted on there to find what I remember.

I think the reasons cartoons are no good anymore is the PC culture we find ourselves in. Good cartoons like Looney Tunes are too violent, especially compared to rap and almost any movie out there, so they have to go. The same with stuff like Tom & Jerry, Thundercats, the Transformers etc. For a while, they tried gross out gags, like with Ren and Stimpy, but that just wasn't sophisticated enough. Nowadays, cartoons have to be so non-offensive to anybody that they're bland enough to make watching paint dry look interesting in comparison. That, or they try to be "sophisticated" and end up being a bunch of snide jokes that are suggestive. After all, good amusing fun isn't good enough anymore

I'm almost 26 and I definitely agree with you. I used to love waking up on Saturday mornings to watch Cartoon Express... There used to be so many good cartoons...

I have a four year old and I'd rather have her watch movies than the crap that they show on television now... There are a couple of good shows, but not like they used to be... not even close...

It is not just you. Most of what I see now is CRAP. I know people who say it is a sign of growing up to stop thinking cartoons are cool but that can't be it as I still love cartoons, if they are good, and I often watch the oldies when I can. Adult Swim is currently showing VOLTRON:Defender of the Universe at 5:30 AM est Tuesday-Friday mornings.

True, they're crap.

I'm 31 and quite frankly cartoons were already starting to go to crap by the time you were born. The early 80s was the Saturday morning heyday: Smurfs, Kidd Video, Wildfire, Dungeons and Dragons...man. You would get up at 6 and fall back asleep when the golf came on at 11. It was awesome.
