The car is a Nissan Altima. Pretty much when I bought it someone had put the lug nuts on backwards before me. I drove the car for a couple thousand miles. I went to sears to try to get my tires replaced. Before they even started on my car the guy told me that the lug nuts were put backwards on the wheel. He said the steel wheel has to be replaced as well as the lug nuts. He said depending on the situation the steel studs may have to be replaced to. He told me that the wheel holes gets crossed or something like that. I removed the lug nuts at home and found the hole where the taper end of the nut goes into appears pretty good condition. Each hole was raised up like normal. I put all of them back properly and they fit well. I don't know if the wheel has to be replaced or not. Is he just yanking my chain!!!!!

you can put lug nuts on both ways. the tapered end of the lug nut holds the rim snugly on the studs. if its put on backwards, the rim can wobble. when you examined the rim, were the holes ovaled out? if so then it needs to be replaced. if there is no ovalling, it should be ok. you may want to replace the rim just to be on the safe side. you probably can pick up a rim fairly cheaply at any junkyard. as to the studs and lug nuts, i would replace them. the studs and nuts could have been damaged and stripped. there in lies the real danger

Most of these answers are correct except the one that sais they can't go on backwards. Now, drive the car with the nuts on correctly and torqued. If you have any wheel vibration, check and change all necessary parts. If you don't have any vibrations, you're just fine, let it go.

there is no way to put lug nuts on backwards as they are a threaded bolt and the nuts only go one one way. he was jerking your chain, do not go there

if you can tighten your wheel with the nuts, and drive with it without humps and bumbs, then i guess its ok..,obviously you can take your wheel off,and look for yourself..
