If you don't ask for a raise...who will?

If the place seems to be doing well and you haven't gotten a raise in the 6 months you've been there, make a list of quantifiable ways you have contributed to the success of the enterprise, and approach your boss with it.

Make sure what you're asking for is in line with others with similar skills, training and background. www.Salary.com is a good place to start for this information.

Don't make any "If you don't I'll quit" threats, because they will often call your bluff. Instead, show him/her how you contribute to the bottom line of the company, and what you are willing to do/learn to keep the business a success. And then ask for a percentage increase to your salary, and ask for more than what you want so you have haggle room!

Try this:

Start by declaring some of the start-up challenges you have helped with,

showing empathy with the bosses issues,

That you just wanted to fore-warn the boss that you think a raise should be in order very soon (30-60 days).

Ask if there is anything else you should be doing to help justify that raise, and when to discuss again.

When employs did this to me, I really found it hard to turn them down unless they had delusions of grandeur.

Sure if you've shown over and beyond workmanship and been there on time, never late and he hasn't stated or volunteered a raise. Be sure you have been dedicated to your job and performed well. A first raise is usually given within 3 months of employment, 6 and then once a year there after. Go for it but be calm, firm and confident.

It's okay to ask, don't go in demanding a raise that'll get him defesive.

Seems you have good reasons to ask if you deserve to be rewarded. But if you're only open 6 months he may still be scraping through financially and may not be able to pay you much more. In that case ask if the empoyee of the month gets a small bonus next month?

Hi !,
You seem to be a very genuine person who works hard for the organisation. Always remember that who run the orgnisations are also honest & hardworking. I suggest you need to give little more time to your employers. If your organisation makes sufficient profits & they recognise your contributions they will definitely give you your deserving raise, cos they can not afford to lose an honest hard working employee.
