Spain? They were there briefly, little colonization, and I wouldn't say that they owned it. Supposedly the Pope gave them that land, but the French Catholics didn't listen to no stinking Pope --everyone stunk then-- Everything you see in Louisiana has remnants of its French days. Even Kentucky's, not part of the Louisiana Purchase, Frankfort means french fort, not named after Frankfurt, Germany.
