I told him I was leaving a month in advance , when I fianlly left he was furious. Started taking clients away from me and being SUPER nice to my clients...(im a hairstylist) After I left he began calling my clients and offering FREE services to keep them . WHat do I do?

Insist you be paid. Call your clients yourself and explain without too much details and without being catty. If you let it slide, he will keep on doing what he is doing and do it to someone else in the future as well

Personally I'd go after any wages owed to me from a former employer, including using the courts. If the former employer started gossip etc I'd add a defamation of character suit to it. As for stealing away clients there's not much you can do. You could try special offers of your own. If former employer is too big and rich to tangle with in this fashion I'd woo away his/her customers as he/she is doing to mine and offer specials whenever he/she isn't. As a hairstylist you could start a contest for clients to win a free style or something like that. Run the contest for a few weeks and have customers put name etc on a small piece of paper and deposit into a box somewhere safe. If you have a Labour Board there as we have in Canada you could file an official complaint for none payment of wages- check into Labour Laws of you State

2. Then have some flyers made up, and if you have a client list with addresses, mail out offers for a free service.

3. If you really want to play dirty, pay someone to go to the parking lot of the hair salon you used to work at, and have them distribute the flyers on the windsheilds of all the cars .
