they dropped it because the shareholders were demanding so much out of it and upn backed out of the deal with nbc and vince mcmahon.

It folded after one season, as others have said. The way I saw it, they tried pleasing two different sets of fans (football and wrestling) and ended up pleasing neither. Many of the people in the XFL wanted nothing to do with non-football, entertainment stuff (to include NBC, the Sugar Daddy). Wrestling fans didn't want to watch minor league football.
A lot of people think it is hip to bash the XFL and call it ridiculous. But, the WNBA has been around 10 seasons and its championship series has never exceeded the rating of the XFL Million Dollar Game. Just a little perspective, that's all.

Bad ratings. The first week it hit a 10 share. After that it was an one of the all time worst rated NBC shows sat night.
I think that bad commentation in the game broadcast was the biggest problem. Having the wrestling broadcasters do the game was the fatal error. Using too big of stadiums and showing too many empty seats didn't help. And if you are going to start a season in January and play all outside stadiums you better have your Key markets in the south. Nobody is going to sit outside in jan/feb to see bad football. They should has started in june after the NFL draft.

NBC & the WWE lost about 70 million dollars in it so they stopped the league after 1 year.
