Personally i wouldnt name a boy something that sounds like a girl name.. IE Ashley, Carrol.. etc. Imagine how the child will go to school and be made fun of. I wouldnt put my child through that torment. I know Ashley can be a guys name.. but it shouldnt be. How many guys you know named Ashley? not many, maybe one or two, but you ask them if they got made fun of... Im sure they have. Id stick to the names with testosterone in them, like David, John , etc. Boys should never have a girls name. Ever.

I don't like the name Ashley but only because I once meet this snobby girl named Ashley. Before I meet her though, I really liked the name. Now to address your question I think it is a good name for a boy. It kinda seems more of a boy name then a girl name to me.

There are a lot of names that were traditionally male names that once parents started giving their daughters these names, they ended up being considered more feminine names. Ashley is one of those names. (Shannon is another.) I happen to know a male with the name Ashley and when he was younger, it caused a lot of teasing. I'm sure it's still giving him issues- consider someone who is calling your house and asks for a Ms. Ashley Smith, when in fact it is a Mr. Ashley Smith who lives there... On a job application or resume as well... someone may not read the box checked male or see the Mr... he or she may just see the name Ashley and assume female. Personally I would not name my child this, but some people do and love it so more power to them!

Have you ever seen Gone with the Wind, Ashley is a character from that movie/book. I think that a lot of older names that were once boys names and are now thought to be girls names are comeing back. My son is Morgan. I think Ashley is cute too.

I know tons of girl Ashleys but no boy Ashleys. Even though it CAN be a boys name he might get made fun of cause in our society it is typically a girls name. What about Ashton?

Personally I think it would be easier for a girl to have a name that is typically a boy's than for a boy to have a name that is typically a girl's.

I think Ashley used to be unisex, but I'd feel very sorry for a boy named Ashley today.

Consider that there are thousands of female Ashleys born every year. When you also add in every girl named Ashli, Ashly, Ashleigh, etc., it's a hugely popular name for girls.

I think that nowadays anything goes. Girls are named Randi, Charlie... Boys can definately be named Ashley. I do think it is rather cute. But parents need to think ahead and decide if the name will be a constant torture to the child. Kids can be cruel, so parents must consider if a name like Ashley is worth having their son teased and ridiculed throughout childhood.
