All interesting topics. Two sides to all the issues so you can choose any side you want. Juvenile justice I like. Some people think that we need to charge 14 year olds as adults and throw away the key. But there's a lot of info on the other side too. 14 year olds aren't adults when they're "good' so why are they when they're bad. It can be argued that we need a better system. There is science that teenage brains aren't fully developed. And it's a money issue-if you throw a 14 yr old in prison for life instead of rehabilitation, that gets expensive. Not to mention our prisons are full. And then the war against drugs. Another great topic. Do some searches using some of those terms-wikipedia.com is a good place to start looking for ideas....

For this paper, you may want to look up the tragic murder of Autumn Pasquale, a 12 year old white girl deliberately murdered by two black brothers, just so they could steal her bicycle. These bastards threw her in a dumpster. One got off with just a wrist slap, very arguably just because he was black. This is a prime case of the need for juveniles to be tried as adults, especially under the circumstance of premeditated murder, which this clearly was. Had this been two white boys killing a black girl, all HELL would have broken loose!

An interesting topic would be: jail vs. mental health facility. Or maybe juvenile probation vs. adult probation. I guess this depends on how long your paper needs to be, maybe you could even do a job shadow with one of the above departments and call it "A day in the life of..." Do something that intrests you so that you won't be bored with your assingment. Best of luck!
