im keep getting a P0128 check egine code on my 03 malibu, ive change the coolant temp sensor wich it says is wrong, could the thermostat bother it to?

You may have even corrected the problem but need to clear the codes. If you don't have an expensive scanner to clear the codes for you just disconnect the positive/negative battery terminals. This will clear your codes in your computer. Reconnect them and drive it and see if they come back on. Or you can take the inexpensive and cheap route that a friend of mine took some months back. He grew tired of the check engine light on in his monte carlo so he took some black electrical tape and taped over it on his dash....LOL

In terms of fuel economy, other have already addressed your question, so I won't comment on that. I looked up reliability ratings on Consumer Reports for both these cars - The Malibu does not have a rating, and I honestly think it's a little too old to trust now. Recently, GM's quality scores have improved a lot, but 2003 was a different story. The 2009 Cobalt seems to have Average scores, and I would be much more willing to trust something that GM put together towards the end of the decade than beginning. Get the car checked-up by a mechanic before you buy, and make sure there are no obvious problems that will cause maintenance headaches later.

yes it could be thermostat or a fuse or loose wire
