States Rights was the status before the Civil War and was the major cause of the war. It was not until after the Civil War did we have a true United States of America. To survive, we need the United part. Check our history since the mid 1800s. Do you think we could have survived as a country with every state doing their own thing. Not likely.
There are not quick fixes. We need to eliminate the political parties. No more Republicans and no more Democrats. We need to elliminate party favortism and do what is better for the country and its people. We need one party and call it the American party. We need to eliminate Congress from serving multiple terms. Instead of a 4 year term followed by re-election, let them serve only a 6 year term with 1/3 of them being replaced every 2 years. Eliminate lobbyist from giving gifts to Congressmen. This is nothing short of bribery. - buying votes. Give the president line item veto. He/she can then cross of the junk legislation (i.e. federally funded golf courses). Or make it a law or procedure that only one item is allowed on the bill at a time. This will eliminate confusion and wasteful pet projects. Change the voting for the president to be people majority and not state majority. Currently, if you win a state you get that entire state. Larger states still control the election process. This is a country of the people, for the people, and by the people. People need to get of the back sides and vote. It DOES make a difference.

More states rights? sure the Republicans have been trying to give it back but the grubby states just seem to have their hands out all the time.. People just do not get it. PAY for what you use. I pay a toll on a bridge, people want it to be free and the senator says OK well get the money from somewhere... Yea someone 3 states away is paying for it. Beach Replenishment! Some millionaire has a summer home wants me to pay for storm damage and then pays someone to throw me and my boyfriend off the beach. They want National Healthcare so they can keep the beach house...after all they are entitled. Sorry less Government is nice but start at home, Ask how do I start with myself first!

Cut it back to ONLY the powers it had at its inception (including requiring the re-legislation of income tax and banking - let's see if they can get states to ratify that stuff for real this time!).
More seriously... stricter term limits, outlaw ALL revolving door appointments / raise standard for congressional or state approval of powerful appointees; institute public campaign financing that is more than fair enough to third parties, disallow the writing of legislation by lobbyists, disallow ALL gifting and special access to legislators and the legislative chamber, prosecute & remove the current quasi-dictator and elect a loyal President, and standardize transparent voting procedures. Oh, and abolish the Department of Homeland Security.
Basically, the minimum needed is to make it impossible to buy Congress, or for the executive to appoint corrupt officials to exploit their service agencies. These are the worst problems we face right now and reforming out of them would leave us with a pretty viable government, still. Campaign finance reform is the biggie.

There's only one way to reshape and reform the U.S.A. now.

...and eventually, it will happen. Eventually, a band of people who love this country will finally have had enough. They will take matters into their own hands, and destroy most of what has turned American into such an amoral, dumbed-down society. They'll start by bombing the U.S. Capitol Building during a Presidential State-of-the-Union address so that most of the members of an evil, corrupt Congress are eliminated, along with most members of the cabinet and the administration.
They'll carry on to bomb most judges' chambers, government bureaucracies, and non-essential, unconstitutional government agencies. They'll also kill most of the wealthy elitists, special interest groups, lobbyists, gluttonous celebrities, squandering professional athletes, producers of violent and vulgar movies or television shows, and those who will do anything for a buck.
It will take years to reform, reshape, and rebuild America after such a devastating attack, but it will all be worth it and America will come together like never before, hopefully before the Chinese government invades and takes over our country. -RKO-

The way our elected officials and potential elected officials has to change. Our mainstream media (all of the 1000s of outlets) are owned by 5 multinational companies and they have total control over the "programming", not to mention that there are 20 lobbyists in Washington for every elected official.. You can't have that kind of money and power deciding who gets to run and then expect to get a real choice.

Two words: States Rights!
Our founding fathers didn't intend for the feds to be so powerful. The feds don't know or care what's going on in our local communities. They can't help us and they don't represent us. We need more power at the state and local level. That's how our country was drawn up. Gradually the feds have gained more and more power unfortunately.
Great Question.

* Reform Presidential elections: if a candidate wins the popular vote in a congressional district, s/he gets one electoral vote. If s/he wins the popular vote state wide, s/he gets two electoral votes. None of this electoral college crap, it's a waste of time and money.
* No adding pork projects to legislation. For example, no Senator should be allowed to weasel a highway onto a bill that gives money and benefits to war vets.
* Term limits for legislators: 6 terms for House, 3 for Senate. It used to be a privledge to serve in Congress. Now people act like it's a birthrite.

Limit the access of special interest groups through strict campaign finance reform and redistibution of power to each state, thus allowing the growth of viable alternitive political parties.
I'd like to eliminate the electoral college too.

Update the constitution as our founding fathers said we should do every 20 years. Get the government out of mine--and your--personal choices.

Our Founding Fathers lacked the special literary skills with which modern writers on the subject of government are so richly endowed. When they wrote the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, they found themselves more or less forced to come to the point. So clumsy of thought and pen were the Founders that even today, seven generations later, we can tell what they were talking about.
