I think the Yoruba religion of Nigeria had a heavy influence within Latin America local religions of Cuba, Brazil, Haiti and others..Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Yoruba has a belief system that is similar to that found in Voo-Doo, which is a belief in the "spiritual rhelm" (dead ancestors, demons, angels, etc). Keep in mind that many historians believe that Catholicism was heavily influenced by African religions like Yoruba--and the similarities can be found in the Cathlolic belief in "saints" (dead people who 'keep watch' over the living), the worship of idols (the statue of mary, Jesus), and exorcisms (evil spirits in the body of people).
