Well, I think you would have to be very committed. Plus the health inspectors are hard to pass. I dont' know personally but my mom has friends in the food business. So it would be a big step. Just think the whole thing through. Good Luck.

It probably takes a LOT of business to make it work.
I used a similar service recently, and the menus from the restaurants were what I used to order from (the same prices). This company (look up doorbelldining.com) used about 10 (maybe more) restaurants to choose from
The delivery company charged $5.00 for delivery - so I'd guess that they work something out where they get a kick back %, or $$ for every so-many orders. From the customer's point of view, I loved it while I was away on business, and will use them every time I go back.
I think you just need to invest in aggressive marketing so that you do a lot of business,,,, in which case it would look like a GREAT idea. Good Luck!

Most restaurants thrive on ambience and people who are just flat out bored of eating at home. If you think they will call for delivery from maybe Outback or Applebys, I would think twice about doing that business. People would like to Socialize and be around different people that's why they go eat out. Its not really the food that they are after. They want to see different people at least once a month or maybe once a week. Now, convenient food like Pizza and Chinese is different. But they themselves have their own delivery service.

It's a wonderful idea! But it's going to take a lot of planning and a few employees since you can't be in all places at once. You have to convince restaurants to join and be published in your flyer.
We love our delivery service. There are around 10 restaurants in it and growing. There's a $5.00 delivery fee, they accept credit cards when you place the order, and have the food here in 45 minutes or less.
www.251togo.com That's the one we use if you want to check out their website.
It started very small, and he sold the business to a larger business which expanded their territory, and he still works there.
Check them out for ideas.

Your local Chamber of Commerce exists to answer these very questions - for free. Your state should also have information on its website. I live in Ohio, and its website has a kit available that you can tailor to your business idea. In it are all the forms and instructions you need to file your business with the state and make it all legal. I just googled "Ohio small business" and it was pretty easy to find. As long as your company is filed with the proper state agency, you should not need any licensing from local governments to operate. I used to deliver meals from restaurants in high school - Ruby Tuesdays, Carrabas, Outback - that sort of thing. It's not a bad idea. If you start this business, I suggest you drop of flyers and that sort of advertising at all the local hotels.

There is one in Vegas and one here in Nor Cal and we use it regularly. If you print up a nice booklet of the participating restaurants and their menus and offer cold drinks along with napkins silver ware and plates then you can charge a fair price and people don't mind paying for it. At different times of the year throw in a little gift like during Valentines day throw in two strawberries dipped in chocolate or a desert, during Christmas throw in a couple of cookies, something like that and I think you'd make a mint!

It depends on where you live. The places I've seen and/or used were located in a high tourist area, large city, or near a high traffic area. Menus were located in hotels/motels with the restaurants that they would deliver from.

Im afraid your perception is off, sir. There is no need for delivery of air time controlling the fact that the response times are generally lower near red lights.
