You have a right to be free of fear and bullying at work. If your boss chides you for under performance and does so in a professional manner, then he is entitled to do so. Before doing that, he should ensure that you are fully trained in your duties and aware of what is required from you.
If he is contravening the company's accepted behaviour patterns towards you then you should raise a grievance using your company's procedures.
You can get a lot of help by being a trade union member, go to www.usdaw.org.uk for information relating to shop workers and their rights.

It sounds as though you may be suffering from bullying in the work place. I really think you need to draw this situation to the attention of a higher up manager and tell them exactly what has been happening. If you can, you should make a diary, and write down each time he says something bad to you, record exactly what was said. I know its tempting just to be angry back and say things, but do be careful WHAT you say. You can politely but firmly tell him that shouting at you in front of others is unacceptable and if he has a problem he can take it to an office or a quiet corner to discuss it with you. His behaviour is entirely unsuitable for a manager and the fact that he does it in front of another manager who does nothing about it, is worrying too. I would be tempted t oget a job elsewhere if you don't have any luck with a higher manager. Just don't lose your rag with him - he'd love that, but it means you likely wouldn't get a reference if you applied for another job. He cannot fire you just for answering back. There is a procedure where you would have to receive a couple of verbal warnings from him which he clearly tells you ARE verbal warnings then a couple of written warnings, before you could be fired.
Good luck to you :)

Yeh, my wife worked at supermarket like that, doesn't work for them anymore and such a high turn over of staff. Just don't give a sh*t obout customer care or report any potential problems you come across. Earn the money and leave. My wife worked for Mor******* by the way, it is full of cheaper payed students and was sh*t, that is why it will never be no.1. Have heard such good staff stories about tesco, asda,m & s though

No, it's "delusions of grandeur".
When you answer him back in kind, you are giving him the choice of taking it as your permission to continue it, or firing you for insubordination.
If you like it, then fine, give him permission to continue, and be sweet about it so he doesn't fire you.
If you really don't like it, tell him flat out that you'll sort his avocadoes and put prices on them, but that his conduct is unacceptable. If he continues, quit. Demeaning treatment is not an acceptable condition of employment, and you should be able to get Unemployment Compensation.

Stop rising to the bait, as this puts you on a back foot. Tell this guy that you think things have gone far enough, and you would like things to temper down a bit.
If he starts again, go and see your HR department. They will be able to advise you of the correct procedure to follow.

Earn and take your money. If he tries to insult you again in front of others ask them for their opinions on his talking. Smile a;ways -it doesn't have to be a friendly smile. But reality check....are you really a good person too? Might say more later...
