This quote has many variations, and is attributed to many different people. My favorite, though, is that a French actor, on his deathbed said, "Death is easy. Comedy is hard!"

So, I think the answer is yes.

All performance genres have distinct challenges. Some perfectly adequate dramatic actors have found comedy to be their undoing.

The flip side of the coin, however, is that, when playing comedy, the actor is never in doubt as to whether his performance is working. If they're LAUGHING, you're on the right track. It's a great deal harder to assess where the audience is "at" when playing drama and/or tragedy.

It really just depends on the actor/actress.

for example, I doubt that I can do stand-up, because I don't think that I could come up with any good jokes/stories. And I can't do extremely serious pieces because I'll just end up laughing. I need a little bit of both comedy and drama.

So they say.

Its in the timing and correct delivery of the line.

Check out Tommy Cooper who could have his audience in stitches without saying anything very clever or funny at all.

Yes, it is. It is more difficult to make someone laugh than to make them cry.
