fiber optics, T-1, T-3, to name a few. there are a few but mostly used by businesses and very expensive. I own a computer business and run T-1. It's more than i need.

T-1 and T-3
But most computer only download at 100MBPS so T-1 is usless unless you are a large company that share connection. I recommend speed at 300Mbps for home use if you have more than one computer. But it easy to figure that you need 100Mbps per computer until you get over 3. Then you know if you have over 5 computer they are not going to be on the internet at the same time or download big files all at once...

Cable is usually faster than DSL, but its probably going to cost you quite a bit more depending on your locality.

Cable is faster but some providers use multiple users (you share speed like in LAN; so you get a lower speed than your provider says). Today the fastest connection is 24mbps and that's Adsl2+ (the price depends on a provider; ofcourse that in countries with more providers it will be cheaper).
