No, just download a bootloader, and you can choose whether to load linux or windows on startup, but they both exist together on the same hard drive

Look, above answers 're really confusing... except Pradeep's answer.

First of all, Linux & Windows XP can be installed in the same computer, I've both in my desktop. Modern configuration of computers can have atmost three operating systems simultaneously.

I don't know about storage capacity of ur hard disk. If it's 80 GB then u don't have to do partitioning in hard disk drive. But if u've <=40GB HD, then it's needed to have a partition.

Keep partition drive empty, coz atleast 10GB space is required to remain free(for back-up purpose). After partitioning u've to install Linux first, from bootable set-up CD(like Redhat 9 or Fedora etc.), then install Windows XP later.

it is possible to install linux and xp in a single pc or laptop..
parition your hard drive..to do this when you install XP select the partitions and the appropriate size required..make partition drive completely empty..have a minimum of 10 GB of free space in that partition..now run the linux setup from a bootable setup cd...choose the partition in which u want linux to be installed..be very careful in choosin the partition as a wrong choice will lead to your entire hard disk being erased..install linux..the next time u boot up ur PC a OS choices menu will be displayed displaying linux and XP choose the appropriate one

I don't know who says that but I wouldn't take any more advice from them. Windows, and Linux can exist on the same computer with no problems. Even Vista will let another OS like linux be on the same computer with out a word of complaint.

To further increase your knowledge by using some software you can also run both the OS simultaneously like VM ware and check things which you can see in networked scenario. only one thing you must care about that is capability of your sys
